Today I had my official diagnostic/screening interview with the doctor who will be doing my TMS treatments. He did a very thorough 2-hour interview. Seems like we covered everything. Anyhow, looks like I "passed" - we've scheduled the first session for February 24. I'm excited to get started!
One thing he emphasized was that the FDA approved TMS for patients who failed to respond to ONE antidepressant, not the MANY I have failed to respond to. He said I have "treatment resistant depression" - and that the clinical trials didn't show it was effective (on average) for those patients. He said it doesn't mean it can't work for me, but he wanted to be clear that the research isn't necessarily on my side. So this wasn't super encouraging, but I figure it's still worth the "gamble." All I have to lose is time and money - and as much as I don't like losing either, the are small things to give up for the chance to get rid of this depression that's been dogging me for over 10 years.
Anyhow, there's lots more to write about, but this is a start. I hope others interested in TMS find me here - as well as those who have tried it. Feel free to send me your questions/comments too.
